Krewe Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler held its 33rd annual ball Jan. 20 at the Baton Rouge Marriott with a theme of “Beers on Tap.”
President Peggy Hebert welcomed guests and dedicated this year’s ball to the late Norman Pressler and Clif Murphy, members who passed away during the year.
Ball Captain Tommy Benoit represented Dos Equis' The Most Interesting Man in The World.
King Dr. Blair Pope Wilbert was the King of Beers, Mr. Budweiser. The king’s pages were his three sons. Nathan and Michael Wilbert, dressed as twin Clydesdale horses, pulled a Budweiser beer wagon carrying their little brother, Daniel Wilbert, dressed as a Dalmatian.
Queen Christina Bourg Wilbert represented the local brew Purple Haze by Abita. She was accompanied by a witch doctor, Johnny Grimmitt, who put spells on the audience as the queen passed them by.
Susann Grimmitt represented Alaskan Black IPA, and Murphy's costume was presented by Leona Benoit.
The emcee for the evening, Dr. Jimmy Hebert, lead the toast and call-out dance. He dressed as Red Stripe beer from Jamaica.
The ball continues with games, such as match the beer with the country or state it represented and beer pong with kick balls. Prizes were given to the winners. Board members who assisted were Jimmy DeFranceschi, Melinda Kent, Barbara Mier, Pam O’Neil and Margaret Scroggs. Remaining board members were in the Royal Court and returning Royalty.
King cakes provided by Hoyt Adcock were served at midnight to end the night’s gala.
Costumes were designed by Ladawn Jones and executed by Peggy Hebert, Ladawn Jones, Leona Benoit, Cathy DeFranceschi, Pam O’Neil, Chrisy Wilbert, Suzann Grimmitt and Mary Crowson. Decorations were orchestrated by Melanie Sullivan, Melinda Kent and krewe members.
