"Dream in Gold" was the Krewe of Romany's salute to Hollywood's Oscar achievement at its 69th annual Mardi Gras Ball on Feb. 3 at the Raising Cane’s River Center.
Reigning over the festivities were Queen LXIX Kathleen Jordan O’Brien, daughter of Kay and Richard O’Brien, and King Romany LXIX Gerrad Matthew Delatte, husband of krewe member Kim Delatte.
The evening got underway with the presentation of the colors by the Louisiana Air National Guard's 236th Combat Communications Squadron and the national anthem sung by Dana Yaun. Then ball Captain Terrie Mabile Cavalier as the Golden Dreamer entered while men in gold danced across the stage.
Maid Molly Elizabeth Anding, daughter of Dana and Scott Kelly and Greg Anding, represented the “The Great Gatsby”; Maid Caroline Elizabeth Crawford, daughter of Amy and Barry Crawford, represented “Memoirs of a Geisha”; Maid Laura Elizabeth Adams, daughter of Laurie and Johnny Adams, represented “Moulin Rouge,” and Maid Jaycelin Breann Carter, daughter of Jodie and Eric Hoffman and Eddie Beard, represented "Titanic." All of the maids were escorted by their fathers.
Attending the queen were her pages, Evangeline Ann Fabre, daughter of Ashley and Travis Fabre, and Crawford Field Meng, son of Chelsea and Gregory Meng. Pages to the king were Oliver James Anding, son of Claire and Brad Anding and grandson of krewe member Jenny Anding; Bennett Mire Duplechin, son of Meghan and Alex Duplechin and grandson of krewe member Karen Duplechin; and Carter Brossie Perniciaro, son of Lindsay and Mike Perniciaro and nephew of krewe member Genie Powers.
Returning members of the 2017 Royal Court making their final promenade were ball Captain Mary Kay Graves Sonnier, Queen Romany LXVIII Carlie Marjorie Dobson, King Romany LXVIII Yakoot Taj and Maids Kennedy Shaye Achord, Cameron Frances Burtner and Jessica Grace Wilhelm.
Also introduced were board members Brenda Torrence, president; Brandi AlJariri, vice president; Maria Rowland, treasurer; Tara Schwartz, secretary; Kim Mitchell and Heather St. Germain, members at large; and Karen Corkern, special adviser.
Stage attendants were Mike Anding, William Day, Brandt Richard, Paul Schwartz and John Williams.
Master of ceremonies for the evening was Robert Chandler. Court costumes were designed by Todd Averette and executed by Loretta Shelton and Jean Sharp. Krewe costume were executed by Jerisse Bolton Grantham, who also did the choreography.
