“Party in the USA” was the theme for the Krewe of Lyonnesse 21st annual Mardi Gras Ball on Feb. 3 in the ballroom of the Marriott.

King Lyonnesse XXI Connor Joseph Cook and Queen Lyonnesse XXI Claudia Cooper Willis reigned over the festivities. President Catherine Van Hook welcomed members and guests to the Royal Hall of Lyonnesse. Ball captains Kristi Delaune and Christy Mendoza introduced master of ceremonies Chad Sabadie, and Baron Beau Willis performed the national anthem.

The queen is the daughter of Renee and Bubba Willis. She is a freshman at St. Joseph’s Academy and is the granddaughter of Kathryn Hendrick; Larry and Lisa Cooper; Lilly Willis and the late Jerry B. Willis. The king is the son of Kim and Travis Uzee and Ann and Larry Cook Jr., and is in eighth grade at Galvez Middle School. He is the grandson of Sandy and Tommy Tucker, Lynn and Larry Cook, Melanie and Andre Uzee, Virginia Allain, and Liz and Steve Boudreaux.

Royal attendants were Baronesses Mackenzie Delaune, Sylvie Sausse and Caroline Uzee; Princess Laura Tucker; Barons William Kessler, Beau Willis and Joshua Tucker; and Prince Warren Pleasant.

Returning as the 2017 royal court were King Joe Shapiro and Queen Abby Blaize; Baronesses Sophia Shapiro and Cecile Taylor; Princess Marguerite Uzee; Baron Adam Tessmer; and Prince Max Kimble. King Lyonnesse XVIII Sam Shapiro served as medallion presenter.

Krewe revelers were Princes Aiden Anderson and Jonah Anderson; Dukes Niles Babin, William Lott and Markham McKnight; and Simone and Solomon Riley.

The krewe also recognized this year’s graduating seniors King Lyonnesse XVIII Sam Shapiro, King Lyonnesse XIX Donovan Bailey and Duke Markham McKnight.

The Krewe of Lyonnesse celebrates Mardi Gras in a family atmosphere. The krewe, for youngsters ages 3 through high school, takes part in its ball processional and rides in the Southdowns Parade. Krewe members also participate in community service activities and present an annual tableau for the residents of Williamsburg Retirement Center. Founded in 1996, it takes its name from the tale of Lyonnesse in the legends of King Arthur.
