Le Krewe du Roi celebrated its 53rd annual Mardi Gras ball on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Carl. F. Grant Civic Center in Plaquemine with the theme of “Moulin Rouge.”

Reigning over the cabaret were King Roi LIII Chad Rivet and Queen Roi LIII Katie Rivet, daughter of Chad and Kristie Rivet.

Master of ceremonies John Morgan opened the tableau with the national anthem and the presentation of the 2016 royal court.

Ball Captains Bryan and Kim Landry and Troy and Casey Mancuso, arriving as the Power Team, dazzled the crowd with their welcome to the cabaret.

During the tableau, the king had to save a small popular gentlemen’s bar from closing due to bankruptcy. With the help of the dukes and maids, they came up with seven numbers, one of which they hoped would impress the producers enough to make the bar a success.

The first musical number, “Show Me How You Burlesque,” was performed by Paige Mancuso as Lady Arabella. She was escorted by the Duke of Sardina Ryan Voorhies. The maid is the daughter of Geno Mancuso and Gwen and Ryan Boudreaux and the niece of Troy and Casey Mancuso.

Performing “I Am a Good Girl” was Lady Chanel, Kristen Charleville, daughter of Kerri and Ricky Charleville, and niece of Allison and Daniel Hebert. She was escorted by the Duke of West Hollywood Hayden Case, son of Christine and Cy Case, and grandson of Joyce and Harry Case Jr.

Lady Marie Carpet Jeanne Favret, escorted by the Duke of Marseille Brennan Landry, performed “A Guy That Takes His Time.” Favret is the daughter of Tracey and Devin Gum and Jacques Favret and the granddaughter of Gwen and John Gum Jr. The duke is the son of Kim and Bryan Landry.

“Because We Can” was performed by Lady Lagoule Sophia Tempenaro, escorted by Duke of Algeria Michael Dupont. The maid is the daughter of Tabitha and David Tempenaro.

Up next was “Something’s Got a Hold On Me,” performed by Lady Thesplae Alissa Graves, escorted by the Duke of Cornell Dominic Barbee. She is the daughter of Shantell and Chuck Graves, and niece of Kristi and Chad Rivet. The duke is the son of Lydia and Michael Barbee.

Pulling out all the stops and performing “Ain’t No Other Man” was Alex Rome as Lady Victoria, who was escorted by the Duke of Naples Clay Payne. She is the daughter of Sandy and Clarence Rome and the godchild of Kristen and Corey Clebert. The duke is the son of Tisha and Kenny Payne.

Finally, the queen performed “Lady Marmalade,” and the bar was saved.

Music for the ball was by Chase Tyler and Victoria Hill. Entertainment by Victoria Weaver, Alyssa Regira and Sara Marionneaux. Bartenders were Bryan Landry Jr. and Connor Case.
