New Orleans native PJ Morton, a keyboardist for pop rock band Maroon 5 as well as a solo rhythm-and-blues artist, played the Varsity Theatre on Sunday night.

Thirty-eight-year-old Morton released his first self-released studio album, "Gumbo," in 2017. "Gumbo" garnered two Grammy Award nominations for best R&B album and best R&B song at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

Back in his hometown, Morton announced in April his plans to restore the New Orleans home of jazz pioneer Buddy Bolden and add a museum and community space there.
