Looking for some holiday fun that can easily turn into a tradition? Baton Rouge officially kicks off the season this Friday when Mayor Kip Holden throws the switch on the city’s Christmas tree in the annual North Boulevard Town Square Festival of Lights celebration. There’ll be a snow village at River Center Plaza, Holiday Music Magic at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, Movies & Santa at the Old State Capitol, the annual Reindeer Run and the chance for a magical Mansion Express train ride at the Old Governor’s Mansion. On Sunday there are two opportunities for tea. The Baton Rouge Symphony League hosts its Jingle Belle Tea from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at De La Ronde Hall. For tickets and information, call (225) 400-0335.

The Baton Rouge General Auxiliary holds its sixth annual Gingerbread Tea from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel. For tickets to this event, call (225) 381-6783.
