The architect’s home at 7312 Leyland Court in Jefferson Place is a tall French chateau that impresses the minute you step through the front door. A grand foyer with sweeping dual staircases and art coves below a soaring 21-foot ceiling is how it all begins. The home is more than 6,200 square feet of luxurious living space with marble floors, upscale lighting and excellent craftsmanship.
The tall front elevation of the home, located in the back of upscale Jefferson Place, offers a hint of what is inside. Entering through the foyer, guests pass a loggia and step into the great room, where the 21-foot ceilings of the foyer are continued. The great room’s ceiling is elegantly coffered, giving the impression that it is even taller. A faux-stone fireplace is at one end of the room.
Lining the back wall is a tall group of windows that nearly reach the ceiling. A wrought iron balcony overlooks the great room and offers glimpses through of the top tier of windows on the back wall. Three sweeping archways line the loggia leading into the great room.
The entire first level of this mansion is floored in marble, even the closets and storage areas. All interior doors are eight foot, and there are five zones of HVAC. Downstairs ceilings are 11 feet.
Left of the foyer is the home’s library, which has a set of French doors to the front porch. On the opposite side of the foyer is the formal dining room, which also has French doors and elegant window treatments. The owner says all window treatments will remain with the home.
A butler’s pantry is located on the way from the formal dining hall to the fabulous kitchen, a gourmet chef’s delight with enough space for two islands and yards of granite counter tops. The kitchen’s Electrolux appliance package is all stainless and upscale, including wall ovens, a five-burner gas cooktop and a massive refrigerator. Each island has a sink, one a prep sink and one a double stainless sink. One of the islands contains a warming drawer and the other a dishwasher. This kitchen is gifted with travertine backsplashes and custom painted cabinetry.
The keeping room just off the kitchen is warmed by a fireplace, and the nearby breakfast room has views of the back yard through a curving wall of windows.
On the other side of the home, meanwhile, is the master suite, a spacious retreat with more marble floors and a nice sitting area with windows to the back yard. The master bedroom closet space for days and a fireplace to warm those cold winter nights.
The master bath has dual granite vanities with custom millwork and mirrors. One of the vanities has a makeup desk. A 6-foot whirlpool tub is adjacent to an oversized shower with natural light from a sunset transom. Yet another closet runs behind the whole vanity wall.
Designed for entertaining, the only downstairs bedroom is in the master suite. The rest of the first floor flows nicely through elegant arches and entryways. The other four bedrooms are up the custom foyer staircases, and each upstairs bedroom has its own full bath. A play room and a media room are also located up here.
The second-floor highlight, however, has to be the beautiful custom wrought iron balcony that traverses the length of the great room below. The bedrooms are located at either end of this balcony.
The fenced back yard has enough fruit trees for a salad, including fig, pomegranate, satsuma, lime and apple trees, according to the owner.
A covered outdoor kitchen is also back here, not far from the three-car garage.
