Nine Baton Rouge area runners who qualified to compete in the 2020 Boston Marathon, which was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, ran a 26.2 mile course through  LSU and surrounding neighborhoods Monday, Sept. 7, 2020 in one of the numerous local 'virtual' races that will be held instead. They were accompanied by a few other runners who ran the race, as well as support runners who accompanied them for only portions of the course. The race began and ended in BREC's Milford Wampold Memorial Park on University Lake.

Signs with the names  the towns outside Boston that runners spend most of the race traveling through were printed and placed on the course, to give the Louisiana runners some Boston 'feel.' Even the CITGO sign that tells marathoners they are near the end of their journey in Boston was made up and placed about a mile from the Baton Rouge finish line.
