Baton Rouge Green's ‘May the Forest Be With You’ native Louisiana trees distribution was a hit on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Main Library at Goodwood, but umbrellas and wet feet were the order of the day. Native south Louisiana trees, 1,000 in all including cypress, redbud, white oak, willow oak, dahoon holly, green ash, swamp red maple, and sweetbay magnolia, were free to area residents, who could get two per household, as part of an initiative to help replace trees damaged and destroyed by the 2016 flood. The event was part of Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation's Enterprise Urban Initiative. The foundation is pledging $2 million over the next two years to fund 40 community tree planting events happening around the country, in addition to Enterprise’s ongoing partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, known as the 50 Million Tree Pledge. Established in honor of the company’s 50th anniversary, the program will fund the planting of 50 million trees throughout the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Spain and the U.K. Tree experts Rick Webb and George and Lacey Bofinger were among those giving advice on selecting the right tree.
