Members of the Walk of America, organized by the United Kingdom military charity Walking With The Wounded, began their day's walk at the Louisiana State Capitol as they passed through Baton Rouge Friday, June 29, 2018. The group's 12 week journey, starting in Los Angeles on June 2 and planned to finish in New York City on Sept. 6, will include a total of 1,000 walking miles across America this summer. Most of the U.S. and U.K. veterans on the walk have experienced mental health challenges since their service, and the walk hopes to serve to engage people around the country in conversations about the wounded veterans' journeys and to raise mental health awareness, as well as serving as a fundraiser to support veterans charities on both sides of the Atlantic in commemoration of the centenary anniversary of World War I, when U.S. and British troops fought side by side. The Louisiana leg of the walk will conclude Sat., June 30 in Houma. The Walk Of America is supported by the NFL, Starbucks, Bank Of America, Bob Woodruff Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, The Endeavour Fund, Jaguar Land Rover, Helly Hansen, Arqiva, The American Friends of the Royal Foundation and XL Catlin.
