LSU vs. Georgia Southern: Scott Rabalais' 3 biggest takeaways from the Tigers' blowout win
LSU couldn't have started the 2019 season much better, demolishing Georgia Southern, 55-3, behind an unforgiving defense and a slick, revamped offense.
Columnist Scott Rabalais shares his three biggest impressions from the game as the Tigers turn their attention now to the top 10-ranked Texas Longhorns.

1. WHAT WE LEARNED
All the talk was about LSU’s offense, but also what stress the Tigers’ up-tempo attack might put on a defense minus stars Devin White and Greedy Williams from 2018. The defense more than held its own against Georgia Southern’s nettlesome triple option attack, not allowing a first down until LSU was up 21-0. LSU had a 189-7 edge in total offense after the first quarter.

2. TRENDING NOW
LSU’s offense. Yes, Virginia, there really is a spread, run pass option attack in Baton Rouge. The Tigers put it on display early and often, scoring touchdowns on their first five possessions. Almost as impressive was the crispness of LSU’s offense, as the Tigers blended runs and quick passes as though they’ve been doing it this way for years. They have not.

3. FINAL THOUGHTS
No, Georgia Southern isn’t Texas, LSU’s road opponent next week. And it isn’t a Southeastern Conference team. But all the Tigers could do was control their approach and performance in their season opener. From an execution standpoint it could hardly have gone better for LSU. The Tigers look as ready as they could be for that first trip to Austin since 1954.
