Local nurses were celebrated at the Baton Rouge District Nurses Association’s 27th annual Celebrate Nursing Banquet at Boudreaux’s on Government Street on May 2.

BRDNA, founded in 1918, honors nurse in the community for excellence in nursing practice, education, nursing administration and research, a news release said.

LaTonya S. Dorsey, of Our Lady of the Lake College, received the Helen Johnson Cremeems award, given annually to an educator for excellence in teaching and development of new nurses.

Dorsey and Mary Dudley, of the National Hansen’s Disease Programs, were awarded the Edith Loboe Scholarship, given annually to BRDNA members pursuing an advanced degree in nursing.

Other registered nurses honored at the banquet included Gregory Altazan, Maya Ki Briscoe and Jennifer Lejeune, all of Baton Rouge General Medical Center; Barbara Anthony, of SBAFA, Inc. Legal Nurse Consulting Business; Lacie Aldridge, Laura Brown, Tyrus Ray Cobb, Cristy Gremillion, Laura Gomez, Gena Kalil and Elizabeth LeCoq, all of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center; Jena Aucoin, Elizabeth Choate, Jessica Morris, Jill Newell and Jacey Norris, all of Woman’s Hospital; Mandy Lea Broussard, Lindsay Bratton Mullins, Dusty Cole Pourciau, Nicole Scott and Francine C. Thomas, all of OLOL College; Lisa Bayhi, of AIM Palliative Care; Jason Gwyn, Lane Regional Medical Center; and Vinnie Marcell, Southern University School of Nursing.
