BREC offers summer camp registration for East Baton Rouge Parish residents from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 21, and for out-of-parish residents at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31.

Parents or guardians may register at the facility of their choice or online for some locations, a news release from BREC said. With themes including recreation, theater, animals and science, various camps are available for children with varied interests, the release said.

Summer camp dates, times, ages and fees vary per camp, the release said.

This summer, BREC offers athletic camps, extreme sports skate camp and BMX camp, exclusive recreation camps for children with mental and developmental disabilities, conservation camps, outdoor adventure camps, recreation camps and tennis camps, the release said.

BREC also offers special interest summer camps at the Baton Rouge Gallery, Baton Rouge Zoo, Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, Farr Park Equestrian Center, Highland Road Park Observatory, Independence Park Theatre and Magnolia Mound Plantation.

“I am pleased that in addition to the many excellent and varied camps that the community has come to expect, the BREC team continues to add new offerings during the summer when it is vital that we provide active, safe and structured activities for children who are out of school,” BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight said. “This year, you’ll find a new Nature’s Explorer Camp at Independence Community Park as well as splash camps for budding tennis players,” McKnight said.

“We are also expanding opportunities for teenagers to become counselors-in-training,” McKnight said. “This program allows them to learn job skills while assisting our camp counselors at a time when they are too young for a job but still need supervision.”

BREC provides camp registration at select locations through Webtrac, an online registration system. BREC recommends parents or guardians make a login request on at least two days prior to registration. The system will ask registrants to set up a household on Webtrac. The Webtrac process must be completed 48 hours before registration begins on March 21, the release said.

Online registration is available for the Baton Rouge Art Gallery, Baton Rouge Zoo, Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, Church Street Park Recreation Center, Forest Community Park Recreation Center, Farr Park Equestrian Center, Highland Road Observatory, Highland Road Community Park Recreation Center, Independence Community Park Recreation Center, Independence Park Theatre, Lovett Road Park Recreation Center, Jackson Park Recreation Center (4- to 5-year-olds), Magnolia Mound Plantation, Nature Explorer’s Camp, North Sherwood Forest Community Park Recreation Center, Outdoor Adventure Camp, Plank Road Park Recreation Center, Perkins Road Community Park Recreation Center, Perkins Road Extreme Sports Park, Womack Park Recreation Center (4- to 5-year-olds) and Zachary Community Park Recreation Center (4- to 5-year-olds).
