A 21-year-old Baton Rouge man was arrested Saturday after allegedly killing his mother’s boyfriend and injuring a 5-year-old boy in a shooting off Gardere Lane that started with a domestic dispute.
John Parker and his mother’s boyfriend, David White Jr., got into a fist fight, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office report. At some point, Parker produced a handgun and fired multiple rounds at White, according to the report.
White, 39, was shot multiple times and later died at Our Lady of the Lake hospital, the report says. His 5-year-old son was shot once in the wrist and was treated at the hospital.
Parker fled the area on foot after the shooting, but detectives later located and arrested him on Chimneywood Drive for first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, the report says.
Parker later told detectives that White had threatened to harm his girlfriend, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
