A Walker man who stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 55, got out of his pickup truck and stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle died from his injuries, a State Police news release says.
State Police investigated the incident about 9 p.m. Friday and learned Joseph Nadeau, 73, was stopped on the southbound shoulder of I-55 in his 1993 Toyota pickup truck.
“For unknown reasons, Nadeau exited his vehicle and stepped into the southbound lane of the interstate,” Trooper First Class Nicholas Manale’s press release says.
Nadeau was hit by a 2011 Chevrolet SUV driven by Judy Thompson, 40, of Brandon, Miss., the release says.
Nadeau was airlifted to University Hospital in New Orleans, where he later died.
Thompson, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
Alcohol is not suspected of either driver, the release says. The crash remains under investigation.
