Shoppers buying hunting and camping gear and supplies Friday through Sunday won’t have to pay state and local sales taxes on their purchases.
The annual sales tax holiday is the result of legislation enacted in 2009.
Items exempt from taxes — amounting to 9 percent in Baton Rouge — include shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers or other handguns; ammunition; and accessories, apparel, safety gear and off-road vehicles, such as all-terrain vehicles, designed for hunting.
“This is a great opportunity for all hunters and campers to save money on the equipment they need to enjoy Sportsman’s Paradise,” Gov. Bobby Jindal said in a news release. “The weekend-long event will also bring more customers to our local hunting and sporting stores, which will further benefit our businesses and Louisiana’s economy.”
