A recent LSU graduate died Saturday after a large wave swept her off the rocks at a San Diego beach and into the ocean, according to CBS News 8

Adriana Toro-Zaid, 23, had just moved to the California city after graduating from LSU with a degree in psychology, said her friend Tylar Dillon.

"That was the first day she had moved there," Dillon said.

Toro-Zaid was with another woman when they both were swept into the 58-degree water, but the other woman survived, according to CBS.

The search for Toro-Zaid became treacherous in the dangerous surf with 15-foot waves and 2 feet of thick foam, both impeding rescue efforts.  Toro-Zaid died in the hospital Saturday night.

Witnesses said the women were walking along Ocean Beach fully dressed with coats and shoes to get an up-close look at the waves before both got pulled into the water, according to CBS.

A native of Pennsylvania, Toro-Zaid had lived in the Baton Rouge area for about six years, working as a server at Capital City Grill downtown and going to school at LSU, said Dillon.

"She was amazing, she changed everybody's life who encountered her," Dillon said.
