Drivers with an automobile insurance policy issued by Affirmative Insurance or Affirmative Casualty Insurance must obtain coverage from a new company before May 12, or they will face an insurance cancelation penalty, the state Office of Motor Vehicles said.
Affirmative Insurance was ordered to be liquidated, according to the company’s website.
“Customers of both of these insurance companies should have already received notification advising them to obtain replacement insurance coverage prior to their policy expiration or by 11:59 p.m. May 11th, 2016,” OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain said in the release. “However, it is my responsibility to take a few more steps to get this information to our customers. We are going to utilize every means available to us to minimize the impact to Louisiana citizens.”
About 11,000 policyholders will be affected, the release says. For information, visit affirmativecasualty.com or call (888) 723-0004.
