VENICE (AP) — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a 33-year-old Madisonville man was killed and a father and son from Arkansas were injured after their 24-foot boat and an oilfield crewboat collided near the mouth of the Mississippi River.

Enforcement division spokesman Adam Einck says boat operator Steven “Brad” Malcolm died en route to University Hospital in New Orleans, where passengers Dennis Prince, 60, of Malvern, Ark., and his 34-year-old son, Corey Prince of Fayetteville, Ark., also were taken. Corey Prince’s elbow was cut but Dennis Prince had severe head injuries, Einck says.

Einck says crewboat operator Tyler Scott of Belle Chasse and passenger Lyrissa Demolle of Venice were unhurt in the collision with the shallow-draft recreational fishing boat.

The accident happened Monday afternoon in Flatboat Pass.
