Two Runnels School educators are finalists for the Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics’ 2015 Outstanding Teacher Awards, a news release said.

Mark Landry, who teaches advanced placement calculus and advanced math, is a finalist in the high school math teacher category. Karen Matthews, who heads the math department at Runnels and teaches geometry and AP statistics, is a finalist in the math educator category.

Nominees were evaluated on professional experience, professional development activities, professional memberships, letters of recommendation and a reflective essay on their teaching philosophy and practices, the release said.

All finalists will receive commemorative plaques and free registration at the Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics/Louisiana Science Teachers Association Joint Conference Nov. 9-11 at the River Center in Baton Rouge.

Award winners will be announced at the conference.
