A man died of an apparent heart attack in the stands at LSU’s Tiger Stadium shortly after the game ended Saturday with a 10-7 Tiger win over Ole Miss, authorities said.

An Acadian Ambulance spokesman confirmed that its crews responded to “a medical call” in the stands at the stadium at 10 p.m., shortly after the game’s end. He said crews were unsuccessful in efforts to revive him and that a physician on the scene pronounced the man dead.

LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette said the man died of a heart attack. He said the incident was unrelated to excited fans rushing the field to celebrate the Tigers victory.

LSU Sports Information issued the following statement regarding the incident:

“Late in the fourth quarter of tonight’s LSU football game against Ole Miss, an adult male suffered a heart attack in the lower bowl of the south endzone at Tiger Stadium.”

The statement said emergency medical personnel responded, but efforts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful.

“LSU offers its condolences to his family,” the statement said.
