Injured East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputy Nick Tullier was admitted into an intensive care unit over the weekend with pneumonia, his family said.

Tullier’s father, James Tullier, said his son was admitted to the ICU after tests showed “definite” pneumonia in both lungs.

In a Facebook post on the “Nick Tullier Strong” page, James Tullier said the pneumonia could have been caused by a recent seizure but it was difficult to determine the exact cause.

Nick Tullier was critically injured July 17, 2016, when a lone gunman shot six law enforcement officers, killing three of them outside an Airline Highway convenience store. Doctors initially feared Tullier wouldn't survive his injuries, which included multiple gunshot wounds to his stomach, head and shoulder.

Tullier has been continuing his recovery in Texas.
