Pet Palooza Day on Sept. 27 at the Zachary Branch Library was a huge success, teen services librarian Nancy Lockett said.

A number of different activities were featured throughout the day, she said.

Lockett said two dogs were adopted during Pet Palooza, a teens’ event at the Zachary Branch Library, which is part of the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library System.

Local veterinarian Dr. Lyn Buzhardt, of the Animal Clinic in Zachary, talked to people about choosing a pet and shared information on spaying and neutering opportunities for cats and dogs.

Buzhardt also spoke to teens about attending veterinary school.

Lockett said an area was set up for teens to make dog toys for area shelters.

Sue Steib, author of “Can We Have One? A Parent’s Guide to Raising Kids With a Cat or Dog,” played with a shelter dog and mingled with families at the event.

The Zachary Branch Library, 1900 Main St., offers services for tweens (ages 12 to 14) and teens (ages 15 to 18) such as book talks, research, audio books, e-books and much more.
