MTV's 'Scream' TV show is filming downtown today

Spotted downtown: "Scream: the TV series" setting up shot to film on Third Street.

The "Scream" TV show is a reboot of the popular late 90's horror movie franchise starring Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox.

Early Tuesday afternoon, dozens of production staff were seen mulling about at the corner of North Boulevard and Third Street setting up equipment including cameras and lights. A catering truck was preparing food to feed dozens of the staff members.

The TV show is produced by MTV. Like the movies, the TV show will follow a murder, but with a modern twist. This killing was induced by a cyber bullying incident.

"What starts as a YouTube video going viral, soon leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town's troubled past," the IMDB description reads.

Filming is expected to continue in Louisiana through July.

Mayor-President Kip Holden said at a press conference in recent months that the TV series was creating about 200 local jobs for the area. The press conference was held so Holden could offer his support for film tax credits which have been under fire in the state legislature.

A production for a TV series called "Scream" AKA "Hush" submitted a tax credit application estimating it would spend about $18.9 million in the state of Louisiana. The program refunds film productions between 30 and 35 percent of in-state expenses.

According to the preview, the show will premiere June 30.
