A concert featuring Baroque music played by the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players kicked off the St. Francisville Symphony Association’s 2014-15 season Friday at Grace Church on Ferdinand Street in St. Francisville.

Special guest Cary Byrd, president and executive director of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, introduced the program.

Prior to the concert, a wine and cheese tasting and silent auction were held to benefit the nonprofit organization. The auction raised $1,300. Three different wine selections, each featuring 15 to 16 bottles, were offered. Dorcas Brown, Mitch Brashier and Z. David DeLoach were the winning bidders.

This season marks the association’s 16th concert series held in conjunction with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.

“We are so excited to be able to bring these quality music concerts to the parish,” West Feliciana Symphony Association President Treva Tidwell said.

“The concerts are open to the public, and individual tickets may be purchased at the door for $25 before each event.”

The association is presenting a series of four concerts featuring music from the Baroque period this season. There are three remaining concerts: “Baroque Sonata,” 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at Grace Church in St. Francisville; “Christmas Brass,” 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Hemingbough, 10101 La. 965, south of St. Francisville; and “The Baroque Concerto,” 7 p.m. Jan. 16, at Grace Church in St. Francisville.

The Christmas concert will feature a dessert reception during intermission, and is held during St. Francisville’s annual Christmas in the Country, a weekend of holiday events in West Feliciana.

Friday’s concert program included “Folia for violin and guitar” by an anonymous composer, “The Rhetoric of the Gods, Suite 1” for solo guitar by Denis Gaultier, “Sonata in e minor for Flute” by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Trio Sonata for Recorder, Violin and Guitar” by G. P. Talemann and “Guitar Concerto in D Major” by Antonio Vivaldi.

Members of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players, Timothy Muffitt, director, performed the selections in Friday’s program. Chamber players included Nicholas Ciraldo, guitar; Rachel Ciraldo, flute; Borislava Iltcheva, violin; Arron Farrell, violin; Elias Goldstein, viola and Molly Goforth, cello.
