Perkins Road was closed in both directions at Glasgow Avenue at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, due to a natural gas leak that's since been contained, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said.

At about 4:30 p.m., Monte said that one lane in each direction on Perkins was expected to be opened shortly.

Curt Monte, spokesman for the department, said that workers had been boring under Perkins Road and hit a natural gas main. No evacuations were required, he said.
