St. George Catholic School promoted stewardship among students during three different opportunities in September.
Students collected plastic grocery bags for Crochet for Compassion, whose members use the bags to crochet sleeping mats for the homeless. The mats are distributed throughout the Baton Rouge community to those in need.
Students also participated in a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk, raising nearly $3,000. For each dollar donated, students received a paper tennis shoe that was displayed on campus.
The Backpack Program, a yearlong, schoolwide stewardship project in conjunction with the Baton Rouge Food Bank, was launched in September. The program provides East Baton Rouge school-age students who are in need with a backpack of food to bring home each weekend. Students collected enough food items to fill about 100 backpacks.
