Baton Rouge native and Southern University graduate Avery D. Wilson on Tuesday was crowned Mr. United States 2016 at the annual pageant in New York.
Wilson competed as Mr. Louisiana against 19 contestants from throughout the nation.
Wilson is a consultant specializing in the spiritual and physical growth of individuals through creative expressions. He competed in such categories as social media/platform, runway, swimwear, formal wear and interview.
Wilson’s optional talent segment, which consisted of a ballet/jazz performance, helped earn him the title.
The pageant winner’s road to Mr. United States 2016 started with his nomination by the Miss Louisiana Pageantry Organization for the title of Mr. Louisiana. He gained community support by asking everyone to join his social media L.O.V.E Matters Campaign — Living Optimistic Values Everyday.
“I look forward to continue spreading L.O.V.E across the country,” he said, adding that he is excited to take his L.O.V.E Matters Campaign nationwide with the new platform that his title provides.
