The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. increased by 12 this week to 312, while Louisiana's count increased by one to 38 rigs.
That’s according to a report released Friday by Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes. At this time a year ago, there were 806 active rigs in the U.S.
Among other major oil- and gas-producing states, Texas added six rigs, New Mexico, three; Pennsylvania, two; and Oklahoma, one.
Ohio shed one rig. All other states were unchanged.
