Hammond-based Gnarly Barley Brewing has been named as one of the country’s fastest growing craft brewers by a trade association.
The Brewers Association, which represents small and independent brewers, ranked Gnarly Barley 43rd in its list of America’s 50 fastest growing breweries list. It was the only Louisiana brewery to make the list.
The Brewers Association based the rankings on sales growth from 2016 to 2017. The association noted that the median growth for the breweries that made the list was 216 percent.
Zac and Cari Caramonta, who founded Gnarly Barley in 2014, noted that the growth happened within the brewery’s existing footprint. “We added personnel and increased brewing capacity, however, we did not add any new markets,” they said in a statement.
Gnarly Barley distributes several beers to bars, restaurants and stores in southeast Louisiana, including Jucifer IPA, Catahoula Common and Korova Milk Porter.
