Los Angeles-based Skanda Media said it plans to build "a contemporary Hollywood studio" in Louisiana and film executive and entrepreneur Nagendra Karri will oversee the effort.

Details on the planned studio, such as its location and projected cost, were unavailable early this morning. The company says Skanda Media-associated productions have grossed more than $250 million worldwide.

Karri is a Hollywood director, producer and the former chairman of Dubai-based Al Muhaymin Media Fund, according to Skanda Media. He ran the fund from 2012 to 2015 and sold his controlling interest to a Chinese film syndicate in 2016.

"This country gave me everything. Whatever I am today is because of my education and background in the states," Karri said in a news release. "Building a cutting-edge Hollywood studio is surely something in my alley as I have worked on this idea for years in the backend. God willing, we will have great success going forward."
