Rooms To Go has purchased a 13.13-acre site at the intersection of Siegen Lane and Cloverland Avenue for $3 million to build a new store.
The location is about a half-mile from its current store.
Crawfish BR Properties LLC, a company affiliated with Rooms To Go, bought the land from Bristol Holdings LLC in a deal that was filed Friday with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s office. Rooms To Go has been leasing a 55,000-square-foot building at 6750 Siegen Lane since 2006, when it bought out the Kirschman’s furniture business. That lease expires in 2016, said Austin Earhart, an agent with Beau Box Commercial Real Estate, who has been marketing the Siegen Lane building.
“Rooms To Go prefers to own their own real estate,” Earhart said. “They’re not moving far away; they’re obviously happy with the location.”
There had been speculation for several months that Rooms To Go would move out of its current location. Earhart said it looks like another retailer might lease the current Rooms To Go building, but nothing has been signed.
“Siegen Lane is on fire,” he said.
Rooms To Go, which bills itself as having the largest furniture inventory in the country, has been in business since 1991. The Seffner, Florida-based business has more than 225 locations across the South and Puerto Rico and posts annual revenue of more than $1.78 billion. The company has 10 Rooms To Go and Rooms To Go Kids stores in Louisiana, including locations in Metairie, Lafayette, Covington and outlet stores in Gretna and Pearl River.
