Charter school company buys school site _lowres

The company that runs the South Baton Rouge Charter Academy has purchased the school site for nearly $13.3 million.

Red Apple at South Baton Rouge LLC bought the school at 9211 Parkway Drive in a deal that was filed Friday with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s Office. Red Apple has the same physical address as Charter Schools USA, which manages 70 schools in seven states. The seller was Ryan Companies US Inc., the Minnesota company that is a builder for Charter Schools USA.

The Ryan Companies bought the 6.3-acre site earlier this year for $1.1 million. The South Baton Rouge Charter Academy opened in August with 591 students in grades kindergarten through sixth. Plans are to have a school with 860 students in grades kindergarten to eighth.
