Buc-ee’s, the popular Texas chain of convenience stores, is set to open its first Louisiana location in The Greens at Millerville development in Baton Rouge.
The convenience store will be located at the intersection of Interstate 12 and Millerville Road, said Charlie Colvin, of Beau Box Commercial Real Estate, which is handling leasing for the development.
“We’re excited,” Colvin said. “They’re a big piece of the puzzle.”
Buc-ee’s, which was founded in 1982, operates 31 convenience stores and the chain’s smiling beaver mascot is prominently featured on signs along Texas highways. The stores are known for their massive size — some locations top out at 60,000 square feet with 120 gas pumps — their wide selection of snacks and merchandise and immaculately spotless restrooms. Despite the size of the stores, Buc-ee’s doesn’t allow 18-wheelers and lacks pumps for big rigs. The stores have up to 225 employees and offer wages starting at $13 an hour.
