Michael J. McBride, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System has named Texas hospital executive Michael J. McBride to succeed John J. Finan Jr. as president and chief executive officer of Louisiana’s largest Catholic health care organization.

McBride has served with CHI St. Luke’s Health in Houston as senior vice president and president suburban hospitals, with responsibilities for its six hospitals in the Houston region as a member of the CHI Texas senior leadership team. 

McBride's appointment is effective Feb. 19, said Sr. Barbara Arceneaux, regional minister, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady and ministry sponsors, and James Moore, chairman of the board of trustees.

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System is the Baton Rouge-based parent company of hospitals and health care services statewide, including St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales and Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa.

“Mike McBride’s experience in Catholic health care brings a unique and exciting complement to the accomplished leadership of our ministry teams. Clearly his faith and personal values have been foundational to his success as he has worked closely with his physicians and team members to achieve high-performance results,” Moore said.

"We have been blessed with the tremendous leadership of John Finan for the last 21 years and we look forward to honoring his career upon his retirement and welcoming Mr. McBride to our ministry and to our state,” Arceneaux said.

Finan was presented the Catholic Health Association‘s Lifetime Achievement Award last year for his leadership since 1996 as CEO of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System and lifelong contributions to Catholic health care. He has more than 40 years of experience in health care leadership. Finan received a bachelor's degree from LSU at New Orleans and his MBA from Loyola University of the South.

McBride also has executive experience in population health management and clinical network development, having served as president and CEO for St. Mary’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. He served the CHRISTUS Health ministry in Texas for more than 15 years, where he held multiple hospital leadership roles. 

McBride earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and a master's health care administration from Trinity University in San Antonio. He completed his administrative residency with Methodist Hospitals of Dallas.

He is a fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and has earned the Regent’s Award for Early Career.

The 100-year-old Franciscans health system serves families across Louisiana through a network of hospitals, ambulatory clinics, physicians, graduate medical education, senior services, nursing homes, wellness services and community outreach. It has more than 14,000 team members and 2,000 active medical staff.
