Magnolia LNG, a planned natural gas export facility in Lake Charles, has signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract with global engineering firm KBR Inc.
KBR will lead the KSJV joint venture with SK Engineering & Construction, a South Korean firm, on the project. The work will cover four liquefied natural gas production lines, each capable of producing 2.2 million tons of LNG per year; two 5.7 million-cubic-foot LNG storage tanks; marine and ship-loading facilities; and infrastructure.
In order to turn natural gas into a liquid, the gas is cooled to -260 degrees. The liquid takes up about 1/600 as much space.
