Louisiana was one of the top five states to grow jobs in May, picking up 19,000 jobs from a year before, the Louisiana Workforce Commission reported today.

The state?s job growth numbers tied for third place with Arizona.

Florida ranked first, followed by Ohio.

The strong gains were due to robust hiring in the private sector, where all categories showed increases with the exception of financial services which was flat. The state continues to shed government jobs, losing 15,900 jobs from a year ago.

?If you look at these numbers, it?s hard to be unhappy with these numbers, because, No. 1, you have pretty strong growth there in the private sector,? said Loren Scott, a retired LSU economists and close follower of the Louisiana economy.
