Baton Rouge General has partnered with Dutchtown Urgent Care in Geismar, making the clinic part of the General Health System network and continuing the system's expansion into Ascension Parish.

BRG recently announced plans for Baton Rouge General – Ascension, a neighborhood hospital in Prairieville, set to open in 2019. The hospital site is at La. 73 and Interstate 10, near the Dutchtown clinic.

BRG opened its first after-hours clinic, BRG Express Care, in September 2017. And Baton Rouge General Physicians, General Health's physician group, has 20 traditional clinics throughout the Baton Rouge area, including one in Prairieville.

Last year, after-hours clinics across the country saw about 160 million patients.

Edgardo Tenreiro, president and CEO of Baton Rouge General, said the clinic patients who need a higher level of care can now transition to other Baton Rouge General services at Bluebonnet or the Ascension Neighborhood Hospital once it’s built.

Dutchtown Urgent Care is open seven days a week and accepts walk-in patients of all ages. It treats common illnesses and injuries including allergies, colds, eye swelling, fever, heartburn, nausea, sprains and strains. It also features a lab, X-ray machine and an EKG for more moderate injuries. The clinic is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
