A 140-bed Element by Westin hotel will be built on Summa Avenue beginning this summer.

This will be the first Element hotel in Louisiana. There are 65 locations of the environmentally friendly, green conscious hotels open or under development across North America, in cities such as Houston, Dallas and Austin, Texas, and Huntsville, Alabama.

“Even the breakfast is all organic,” said Ash Patel, one of the principals of Summa Lodging, which is developing the location. Patel said this will cater to people who are staying or doing business in the Essen/Bluebonnet/Perkins medical corridor.

Summa Lodging bought the 2.2-acre site for the hotel in March. At the time, Patel said the brand of the property was still being determined, but it would have 140 beds and room rates would start at $130 a night for a standard property.

The Element hotel will be an extended-stay property, with the rooms spread across five stories. The hotel will feature a fitness center, pool and meeting room.

The opening is expected in early 2019.

Patel and his partners, which include Neal Patel, own about a dozen hotels in the metro area, including brands such as Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express.
