Grants totaling more than $7.5 million for projects that address systemic risk in offshore oil and gas operations have been awarded to two LSU Petroleum Engineering Department faculty members.

Wesley Williams, a professional in residence, received $4.9 million for his project, which focuses on gaps in understanding the behavior of riser gas under high temperature and pressure.

Mileva Radonjic, an associate professor, received $2.6 million for her project, which seeks to advance capabilities for prevention and remediation of wellbore leakage in offshore hydrocarbon-producing wells.

Weatherford and Radonjic received more than $7.5 million of the total $10.8 million awarded Thursday by the Gulf Research Program of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.
