Baton Rouge and New Orleans ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in KPMG LLC's list of U.S. cities and locations that offer the lowest costs for businesses.

The audit, tax and advisory firm's report ranked cities with populations between 750,000 and 2 million. Shreveport captured the top spot for small cities/locations with populations of less than 750,000.

“Louisiana, in particular, fared well because of the state’s tax structure and total business costs,” said Christine Bustamante, principal in the Global Location and Expansion Services practice of KPMG LLP.
