Entergy Corp. will use Silver Springs Networks Inc.'s technology to help manage electricity and gas meters for roughly 2.8 million customers in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.
In a Thursday announcement, San Jose, California-based Silver Springs said its products will support Entergy's "comprehensive grid modernization program." Entergy will be able to offer customers more insight into and control over their energy usage and costs and help the company to more quickly identify and restore power.
Silver Springs President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Bell said the smart grid program will usher in "a new era" for Entergy’s utilities. Pending regulatory approval, Silver Spring said Entergy is expected to begin deploying the technology by 2018 and complete the work by 2021.
