Topgolf has officially broken ground on its new location in Baton Rouge near Interstate 10 and Siegen Lane.

The high-tech driving range and entertainment venue is slated to open in late 2018 or early 2019, Topgolf officials said in a news release on Tuesday.

“We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Fat Tuesday than with this announcement regarding our first venue in Louisiana,” Topgolf Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway said in the news release. “Our location along the I-10 corridor is ideal, offering numerous dining, shopping and entertainment options. Topgolf will offer a new, interactive experience that is fun for any occasion.”

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome said in the news release that the Baton Rouge location will bring 325 full- and part-time positions.

The permit for the $10 million facility was issued in late January. Topgolf plans to build the 55,000-square-foot entertainment facility at the site of the old Tinseltown movie theater.

Topgolf is a high-tech driving range, where people hit microchipped golf balls that record distance and accuracy. It also features an extensive bar and restaurant.

In November, the East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council approved a rezoning to allow for Topgolf to sell alcohol at the location.

Topgolf, which was founded in 2000, has more than 40 locations worldwide, in U.S. cities such as Atlanta; Tampa, Florida; and Houston, Dallas and Austin, Texas. The company website lists another 17 locations as opening soon in markets such as Detroit, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh and Dubai.
