Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a 24-year-old man Saturday accused in a double shooting Friday on Ed Brown Road near the Tangipahoa Parish line, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.

Earl Johnson Jr., accompanied by his attorney, Charles Brumfield, surrendered to sheriff’s detectives at 11 a.m. Saturday, sheriff’s spokeswoman Lori Steele said in a news release.

Johnson, 10153 Illinois Jones Road, Hammond, was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on one count each of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, Steele said.

No bail had been set as of about 5 p.m. Saturday, Steele said.

Johnson is accused of killing Darryl Patrick, 46, 46016 Durbin Road, Hammond, and wounding an unidentified 44-year-old man, Steele has said.

Johnson allegedly shot both victims multiple times Friday afternoon, Steele has said.

Patrick was alive when deputies arrived but died at a hospital, Steele has said.

The unidentified victim remained under treatment in a hospital Saturday, Steele said.

Sheriff’s deputies have not yet determined a motive for the shootings, Steele said Saturday.
