An Amite police officer accused of sexually assaulting women after deceiving them by calling and meeting them in a private car and not in uniform, has been arrested, the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.

Grant P. Carruth, a 25-year-old from Husser, was taken into custody Tuesday and faces two counts of second-degree kidnapping, one count of aggravated rape, one count of sexual battery and one count of theft, according to a news release.

Investigators have linked him to two cases from Aug. 11 and Sept. 20. In both, he approached his female victim and identified himself as a narcotics officer, handcuffed them and said they were being arrested, the release states.

“The victims were transported to undisclosed locations within Tangipahoa Parish where they were forced to perform sexual acts against their will,” the release states.

It also notes that Carruth became more aggressive and violent in the second incident. Both victims identified Carruth as their attacker.

Anyone with additional information on the case is asked to call Det. Mike Moore at (985) 345-6150.
