AMITE — A man who allegedly broke into a home and assaulted the owner died Sunday after a woman in the home stabbed him several times with a kitchen knife, according to a news release from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Antoine Addison, 41, of Amite, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner, the release says.

According to the release, several deputies responded to a aggravated burglary in progress about 9 p.m. at 12423 Old Baton Rouge Highway in Hammond.

When they arrived, they learned that Addison arrived at the house wearing a mask, hood and gloves and smashed windows of a car parked at the address with a crowbar, the release says.

He then forced his way into the home where he attacked a resident with a crowbar and threatened him with a knife, the release says.

A woman, who was also in the house, grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Addison several times, the release says.

Addison fled the house but collapsed outside because of his injuries, the release says.

Police arrested Odell Pratt, a 45-year-old Independence woman, for driving Addison to the scene, the release says.

Pratt was charged with being a principal to aggravated burglary and being a principal to attempted first-degree murder, the release says.

As of Monday, Pratt was in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail and bail was set at $150,700.

The victim and suspect were related, but the motive for the burglary remains under investigation, the release says.
