A 19-year-old woman died Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 about two miles east of the St. Tammany-Tangipahoa parish line, Louisiana State Police said.

Hailey Nagim, of Ponchatoula, was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee east on I-12 at 11 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle left the roadway and ran onto a grass median, Trooper First Class Nick Manale said in a news release.

Nagim overcorrected to the right and then back to the left, causing the Cherokee to strike a tree on the median, Manale said.

Nagim was airlifted to a New Orleans hospital where she was pronounced dead, Manale said.

Nagim was properly restrained at the time of the crash, Manale said. Impairment is not a suspected factor, Manale said.
