The city of Walker will hold an Independence Day celebration at 3 p.m. July 2 at Sidney Hutchinson Park.

CityFest will feature activities for children, including inflatables, a water slide, hot-air balloons, train rides and more. Barbecue, jambalaya and more will be available.

The celebration ends at dusk with a fireworks show.

Families are invited to tailgate, and are asked to bring a tent, volleyball net, horseshoes, a picnic or barbecue pit. For details, go to

Choir camps

The Livingston Parish Children’s Choir will host three choir camps in July.

The first camp, the choir’s Summer Musical Theatre Workshop, will be July 5 to July 9. Camp for children entering first through fourth grade will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and is $100.

Children in fourth through eighth grade will have camp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the cost is $125.

The second camp, Iprov Summer Intensive, will be from noon to 4 p.m. July 5 to 9 for students in eighth through 12th grade. The cost is $125. For information, email to or call (225) 937-9622.

The third camp, Summer Choir Camp, is from 9 a.m. to noon July 18 to 22. The camp is open to all children entering kindergarten through fourth grade. The cost is $60.

The camps are supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana Arts Council as administered by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.

President named

The Livingston Economic Development Council has named veteran economic developer Randy Rogers as its new president and CEO, board Chairman Steve Stein said.

Rogers retired from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture in 2009 as the director of the Louisiana Agricultural Finance Authority and director of Agro-Economic Development.

Rogers has worked part-time with the LEDC managing the E-Synchronist Program, targeting business retention and expansion activities. He served as interim president following the resignation of Stuart Litvin in February.
