Nearly 246 children with special needs, along with their teachers and paraprofessionals from Ascension Parish schools, enjoyed the Gonzales Rotary Club’s Kids in the Park program on Oct. 24 at Kidz Kove Discovery Park in Gonzales.
“This is an event which is distinct in a number of ways,” local businessman, Rotarian and event chairman Mike Hebert said. “While the club’s other events are for raising funds for various local, regional and international causes, this one is purely to bring joy into the hearts of the special needs children in our area.”
The annual event featured grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, ice cream and a bag of Halloween candy along with playtime on the adapted playground that welcomes children of all abilities.
“Kidz Kove has proven to be a great location for this event because it provides the children with recreational equipment on which to play without the need for their teachers and teachers’ aides to bring extra equipment,” said Mayor Barney Arceneaux, a Gonzales Rotarian.
