The National and American leagues of Gonzales coaches pitch began tournament play at Bergeron & Gaudin Memorial Park in Gonzales on June 1. Championship games were played on Saturday.
Waguespack Insurance scored five runs in the bottom of the third, overcoming an early 4-1 deficit to defeat Ascension Specialty Advertising 7-4 for the National League title.
Cade Delaune led off the bottom of the third with an infield single and Gavin Higgins followed it up with a triple. Noah Lewis, Zach Dotter and Braxton Billingsley all doubled, and Kale Guitrau drove in the final run of the inning with a single to left to give Waguespack six straight hits to take the lead.
Athletic Center defeated Livewire 11-1 in the American League finals. The team’s leading hitters were Easton Humphrey, Reid Mayers, John Brown, Quinten Elisar and Jett Lemoine.
Tommy Frazier, Dason Decoteau and Quinten Elisars put up strong defense, making clutch plays and scoring big outs.
Waguespack Insurance and Athletic Center were set to meet in a two-out-of-three championship series on Monday and Tuesday.
